So your next project is going to feature WW2 shenanigans?
Why all this War stuff - why not a lovely peaceful story about Rainbows and kittens and soft fluffy mittens :)

I don't know why I didn't see your question before, Sage? I'm in Texas, 500 miles away from home until Sunday. The next story will have a prologue that flashes back to WWII to introduce a new "element!" It will set the stage for what I think will be a fun surprise. :)

YAYYYY! The Epilogue is up!

I spent my down time in Texas trying to plot out MoV2. I have three elements I'm trying to weave together, But I fear I'm trying to cram too much in and I won't be able to properly explore all the ramifications of each element without it feeling forced. I'm thinking of splitting it into two plotted stories so as to deal with only 2 elements at a time and give each their due--but this would make it seem like the "new unit" is taking forever to get around to tracking and disabling the boson weapon if I leave that story for a Part 4 (originally slated for Part 3)--decisions, decisions!

Splendid! A first class piece - but Oh woe, now I have to sit through five months of DAZ based techno-babble between you and the other DAZ heads on this thread before we can discuss a new episode - how will I ever cope?
Some things to work on - firstly practice on shading and skin tones - there are times "Allen" looked hollow eyed and skeletal - especially in this episode, those wide staring eyes were spooky looking, for a first effort it was amazing - and I admire and respect your ability to get that damned intractable program to do anything let alone an 11 part several hundred page graphic novel. Your writing is of the finest quality - not only literate and clear but emotionally and aesthetically pleasing, art wise there was some problems but I am confident that those will eventually disappear.

Thank you Commotion22 please enjoy a well deserved rest and I hope ot see more from you when you are ready.

I noticed that too at times, and not just in this episode. My saved figure files kept shifting. I would set it back where I had it and resave, but after a few uses I noticed it had shifted again!!! It kept trying to give Christine and Allen darker skin tones, brownish for Christine and grey for Allen, and Allen's eyes would change from green, where I had it set, to brown! You don't always see it because the camera is far off or the shot is too small--but it sure annoyed the H**L out of me!! Many times I noticed too late and just had to let it go! :(

Well, I am a bit reticent to discuss UPCOMING episodes because I have some real corkers planned and I don't want to give those away too early, but there is a lot of subtlety built throughout the story that I often wonder if anyone noticed. I truely agonize over how people say what when to add depth or foreshadow upcoming revelations. I'll give two "for instances." Gorshin is not without feelings and emotions, he is just really good at setting them aside or ignoring them. There are only TWO instances where he let them slip in the last story, and a clue that his emotions are showing is when he uses a contraction--did you spot them? If you did, it wasn't a slip-up on my part--it was deliberate. Another "for instance" is Jon's fairwell conversation. There is a secret he knows that those "keeping the secret" don't know he knows that threatens to tear him up if he can't find a way to deal with it. You'll be let in on what it is in due course. But it is another subtle indicator that was put in deliberately. Many of these I would love to discuss, except where they are in there for the future--in which case I'll let you know at least that much! ;)

Loved it. One thing i wanna point out is that there are women that refer to their boobs as their "rack".

Can't wait for MoV2.

Now that you your base story going you should pull back and just keep doing more chapter rather that trying to cram it all into one or two chapter that the best way to go and you want run try with I Ideals as soon also.

Yes, and as Dr. Collins points out, it's not polite. :)

sandman:
I can't wait for Spring 2010.

I picked this timeframe for a number of reasons. First, I tend to get impatient and rush it at times and I want to build-in plenty of time to learn new tricks and do things properly. As Sage pointed out, there were some weaknesses, and I want to give myself the time to reshoot whole parts if necessary to "fix things." I also want to learn new programs. I bought Carrara 7 Express, when it was cheap (it still is, but for how long...?), to give me more flexability on exterior settings and not have to search for and buy expensive ones when I only need a location or two. I also want to get way ahead on chapters, maybe even finish the story, before passing it on to Femur so as to create a more predictable release schedule--one chapter every week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, whatever is most convenient for Femur and won't leave you folks hanging in limbo (I know I get antsy when I'm dying for an update to a story, but no one has any idea when that will be! :D )

C_Monster:
just keep doing more chapter rather that trying to cram it all into one or two chapter

I'm trying to figure out how much to tackle in the next story. I am trying to do this episodically, where each story is self-contained with its own plot, themes, story arc, problems, actions, solutions, supporting characters and ending--like a series of novels and not just a "run-on sentence." I've noticed over the years that comics that just keep adding "chapters" to the last one have difficulty transitioning to new plots, themes and crises and they come off feeling forced and unnatural without some sort of natural "break." Episodic television seems a more reasonable model, where each program is a self-contained story. I also don't want to make new readers read EVERY previous strip to understand what is currently going on. And if you or I ever get bored of this series, this won't just dribble off into oblivion, but will have a proper ending and I'll leave behind series of complete stories that newcomers can discover and enjoy in whole or in part.

Anyway, that's the plan! ;)

And I have thoughts for at least another 5 stories! :0

You must be joking - I only got it last night and I am still in the "Ooh what does this button do?" stage - maybe a whiley down the line I will post up some stuff - it seems to be a bit like a fancy ass cross between paint and Comic life - with maybe some Photoshop too - it looks like you actually draw in the panels rather than import images and manipulate them

That why I like numbers. Each show is selfcontain however they keep a continuity between each episodes and do talk about something as a verbal flashback without drowning the new episode, So that is the way to go

It sound like you found a program that won't crash the computer. With am still in the "Ooh what does this button do?" stage, take your time, half the fun is learning a new program with out being rushed. So good luck and I can wait wait to see you work

In looking at the art work and reading the story line and with the ending, you have skills well honed. The dialog is a good blend of Geo political-religious blind faith with a dash of military philology in the mix. I think the way you did this Rod Sterling would be proud of you the ending I don't think you could have done any better, to have Christine/Allen find some sort of closer

Here is a question to ask of you. How did a marine get into the 11th Airborne* (The Angles) while also serving in a tank destroyer unit in WWII ? He also won the Blue Max (WWI), The Iron Cross (plane) the navy cross, the bronze star, the silver star ?

My dad and Rod Sterling both serve in the 11th Airborne in different companies sort of interesting don't you think so.

The pictures were a nice touch so please kind sir can you tell us of how you did the picture scene

For Christmas is to have Santa give the complete collection of the Twilight Zone. When I first saw it as a young man it did leave a mark on my in a good way. I think you will like them.

I agree The Twilight Zone was great, some truly horrifying stories - who can forget the classic ending where the poor downtrodden guy that finally has the chance to read all he wants looks in despair as his glasses lie smashed on the ground?

Others you may not have recognised: WWII Victory medal, European African Middleeastern Campaign medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal, American Defense medal, German issue Franco-Prussian War victory medal, Austrian issue participation medal for the War of the Fourth Coalition against Napoleon 1813-1814, 106th Infantry Division patch (Golden Lions) (thumped by the Germans in the opening phases of the Battle of the Bulge when 2 regiments were surrounded and surrendered in the Schnee Eiffel mountains), Nike' brigade patch circa 1950s (my dad's unit, anti-ICBM missile units), U.S. Park Service badge for completing the children's park project for the Battle of Cowpens in South Carolina, two regimental crests that I haven't researched (they're my dad's, '50s/'60s vintage), and finally a scholarship award I won in High School in a history competition at the local university, ribbon bars for many of these same medals (a couple are repeated) :D !

Hey! I asked for alternatives on this thread! (LOL!) So I had to dip into my rather extensive collection and chose stuff primarily for their looks--either exotic (the 19th C European medals), "space-related" (the star medals and the missiles on the nike' patch), or looked like typically aggressive military motifs (lions, panthers, and I had to throw in a paratrooper patch, but everyone knows what the 82nd and 101st patches look like--right?), and enough other stuff to fill up the riker mount display. My hope was that there wouldn't be too many of us military buffs out there and most would not be immediately recognised.

C_Monster:
to have Christine/Allen find some sort of closer

Yeah! That's what I was aiming for! Not exactly a "happy" ending, but a hopeful one. Christine and Allen come to some kind of accomodation and Allen finally finds some peace. On the final page, Allen sleeps peacefully, smiling, and not awakening in terror for the first time in weeks. You could see the change coming when he dreams in Chapter 10 and finds Christine is not present, and still awakes in terror for fear she is gone for good, or maybe she had never been there at all in the first place!

Clearer, But Too Much Glare--No Navy Cross! :)

Oh! That was the easy part. I just set-up the scene and the shots to go in the frame and rendered them (the medals are a digital photo) and I Gimped them as layers onto the picture frame in a base render (all three base pictures of ChristiAllen holding the frame looking down on the picture from above are actually only one shot used three times. :) ).

AndiJF:

I saw the ending in my mind much like a movie. It would be obvious what had happened and I didn't see the need to rehash the reconstitution from Chapter 3. So I "cut to the chase" to deal with the aftermath and leave the sense of time having passed (Gorshin mentions ChristiAllen's lengthy stay in the infirmary, and Allen mentions to Christine that it has been a couple of weeks since the attack on the scout--so you can figure he spent about a week in the infirmary this time.).

Speaking of the 106th "The Golden Lions " they were probably the true heroes of Operation Watch on the Rhine (Battle Of The Bugle) They were a green division that was stretch to thin in a tactical manner. They basically fought until out of ammo and had no recourse but to surrender The 82 Air borne were move to Bastone when the fighting started and were surrounded and bypass until the German fell back and try to break them. If you look at a tactical map of the battle you will see what I mean. The reason the 82 Air borne became heroes and the 106th went to the ash can of history was how are propaganda game was played. Its like so much other thing the we were not told. that happen in WWII that just now coming to light The 82 Air bonre did nothing special but to fight to save there own skins and not end up like the 106th

Not to be sidetracked into esoterica-- but it was the 101st that held Bastogne. The 82nd wound up on the Salm River near Trois Ponts on the north shoulder of "the Bulge." :) (Well, it IS my field! ;) )

My apologies.

I did want to write something a 106th and it has been 20 years since I had read "Decision At St Vith" so I was winging with out rereading the book. Still the 101 did nothing special and that is was Patton's Army that save there bacon. But the bottom line is the 106th was the true hero's and not the 101th AB.

At his time stamp you have two hours to buy bot armor at DAZ fast grab ASAP

Armored warrior, sentient android, cyborg, or super hero? You decide. Bot Armor is a complete sci-fi character and conforming figure set for V4. Custom morphs and second skin bodysuit textures are just the beginning. Easily load a whole armor/joint prop set, or load individual parts like one hand and forearm for example. Simply hide or delete smart prop joints to change robot parts to armor. You can even combine the robot figure set with helmet and mask as a stand alone figure. The possibilities for this set are only limited by your imagination. Checkout all the full size promotional images to get a few ideas.

Adventures on the USS Hornblower

by

Bad Irving and Maggie Finson

Lieutenant Robin Fischer glanced nervously around the boulder that he had taken cover behind. Muttering to himself about idiotic ideas regarding contact with other, not always friendly races. And even more, muttering under his breath about being stuck with all the shit jobs just because he was the newest member of USS Hornblower's crew. This job had sure turned to shit, and all at once.
