Awful article about our site

I was doing a google search of "TG Comics" had the misfortune to stumble on an awful article, the product of the hate site "Encyclopedia Dramatica." After reading through the disgusting thing, I discovered the site defamed women, homosexuals, and even transsexuals. What I read made me physically ill. I even cried a little.
Is there any way we can remove this awful article?

Is there a link to this "awful article" so that we can check it out for ourselves?

And haters are gonna hate. Worst thing you can do is waste your time getting caught up in ther hate.

Hm.

Well, first off, they are not interested in our genre. I think that is clear:P

Second, much of what they say is true, I'm afraid. Many of the stories and fantasies we find here and on fictionmania, etc, are very much misogynistic. So, while they certainly weren't very nice about it, their points aren't exactly untrue. It's a bit of a stretch to say that all of the comics at the site revolve around the concept "Men are stupid, women are sexy sluts who get whatever they want", but, there is a tendancy for some of the things we say and write about to come off that way. And, if you don't get "It", it's very hard to understand, and you will grab onto whatever comes to mind when you look over the content.

Can we remove it? Nope. Unless they stole some copyrighted material, or managed to harass a particular person in their real life, I think the site is within the rights of freedom of speech to say whatever they please.

Now, it IS a wiki, so, you might be able to update the site with a more balanced view. However, I suspect the site itself will quickly replace anything positive you say, but...you never know!

If we want to improve our image, we have to empower the writers who want to tell more conventional stories. Stories which actually have characters that are believable and aren't burdened by the stereotypes they are complaining about. Of course, those stories might well be completely ignored by the majority here, who knows.

So, yeah, it sucks to read someone say such ugly things about the site, but, people can just about always find ugly things to say about anyone. We could create our own wiki and complain about grouchy tgcomic haters! :P

Proceed with caution!

Guys:

(a) Encyclopedia Dramatica is -- I think -- an offshoot of 4chan. 4chan are the folk who have a nigh-magical Internet research ability. Personally, I am not one who would want to screw with them.

(b) ED has nothing good to say about anyone. Seeing TGComics ripped there has about as much surprise as going, "Oh, look, Ann Coulter bashed another liberal." It's par for the course.

I keep hearing about 4chan. I really should figure out what that is all about.....

It's pretty much all been said: Encyclopedia Dramatica has nothing good to say about anyone. Seeing this site bashed on there should bother us about as much as... well... something that doesn't bother us. The worst thing you can do to a troll is give them attention, so just ignore the screaming twelve-year-olds who think that bashing everything makes them cool and edgy. I pay them about as much attention as I pay the morons on Xbox live. They can't hurt us, so who cares?

Homophobia exists. This is a sad fact of life, but an unavoidable one, and we have better things to do than worry about what the haters are saying about us.

Pissing off 4chan is like pissing off your drunk, abusive stepfather: You never know what will do it, but when it happens, watch out.

you're getting bent out of shape about an AE article?

That site is ENTIRELY sarcastic... yes, they go overboard OFTEN but it is in no portion to be taken seriously. Hell, they do not intend for people to take it seriously, though I suspect they would find it amusing.

they are a LOOSE offshoot of 4chan's /b/ board, but not directly, and if you look, they actually do have some funny stuff. Didn't know they had an article about us though.

Wait, since when do we have that condescending link on the disclaimer page that leads to the religious tracts site? I really must agree with their assessment on that from, little as I like it, that's just tacky on our part.

not much we can legally do most have it right with it is a crap site with a hater review.
They get there jolly by pissing people off.
They obviously didn't dig to deep into our community because there superficial statements didn't even get there toes wet on the social and moral debates that have popped up here or the long standing non troll community.

If it is to be taken seriously then it was done with about as much research and consideration for the overall content I would expect from an elementary school student.

If it is a roast then it is very dry.

Don't loose any sleep from it.

If anything it acts as a shield steering away people that might come here and start trouble.

I would hope it would be sarcasm. I don't claim to know everything, and I'd be scared of myself if I did. Lots of assumptions.

I know lots of people that would, and won't appreciate this site. It's not for everyone, and I can't characterize who ,or what kind of person enjoys this site. Lots of different people enjoy the site. I also don't think woman are better than men, but I do respect women with the freedom to fantasize, just like any super hero comic fan would.
I'd hope it's sarcasim. I've never been comfortable, or confident with any informational source that makes too many assumptions. Opinions always vary on everything. If I had to persecute every one that disagreed with me, I'd have no time to myself.
I don't like every comic here, but I like the idea that there is such a place for it.
To each their own.

exactly,
they were warned before entering and came in anyway, probably no further than the index page.

Like people have said, it is a 'troll-pedia'. The idea is to upset and annoy as many people as possible. Followers, particularly 4channers, can be disturbingly fanatical at times.

Well, it's a forum in which anything can be said with no repercussions. That gives people with a lot of anger/hatred/time/mischievous intent/whatever to be as ugly as they can possibly be. This site is a good example. Not too long ago, someone was effectively banned here after repeatedly making incendiary comments. On sites such as those associated with 4chan, apparently that type of behavior is encouraged (perhaps that is one of the few sites that lets them bring their lighters!)

This bears not only repeating, but engraving in stone. No matter how breathlessly fulsome Femur's front page reviews might be, the vast majority of content made for this community (and I mean community-at-large, not just these sites that Femur works so hard to keep running) is female-objectifying fetish porn.

Encyclopedia Dramatica is not Wikipedia. Spending all of thirty seconds there should be ample proof of that. The best weapon against it is its own sheer ridiculousness. It's a tar baby hidden in a cloud of bogus Oscar Wilde quotes. Look and laugh, warn people away if you think you have to, but it you punch at it, it will get all over you.

Remember Penny Arcade's rule of internet trollery: "Normal Person + Anonymity + Audience = Total Fuckwad."

Trust me, nothing [name omitted to avoid reopening old wounds] ever said to us would be "encouraged" on 4chan... because the things that 4chan does to their victims are several million times worse.
